Pictish Celtic Mitts

Primitive-style Harris Tweed Wool Pictish Celtic Mitts. Hand-plied and hand knitted fingerless gloves in rustic, traditional Outer Hebrides Scottish wool

Inner Wild Pictish Celtic Mitts are rough, rustic and untamed except by Celtic knot work cabling set around the back of your hand.

They are hand knitted in gathered threads from Harris Tweed wool bobbins from a Harris Tweed weaver; bobbin ends they are called. This is the the very same thread used by authorised Harris Tweed weavers in the Outer Hebrides. It is a durable, hard-wearing thread that being pure and relatively unprocessed wool naturally repels dirt and just like Harris Tweed garments, hand washing is not necessary.

This gathering of the threads instead of plying means the stocking stitch knitted warps to the side and occasional loops appear as it’s being hand knitted so it becomes imperfect and wabi sabi, flowing and curved and lovely. It also means your Inner Wild Pictish Celtic Mitts will naturally mould themselves to the shape of your hands.

These fingerless mitts are beautiful to wear, so rustic and rough, and smell wonderfully woolly – Harris Tweed-scent woolly.

If the individuality of handmade, homespun, wonky and primitive pleases you, you’ll find unexpected joy in wearing your Inner Wild Primitive Mitts.

This particular shade of bronze-green is sublime. There are many subtle, soft Hebridean landscape tones in this particular yarn giving it depth and beauty. It’s the shade used in many traditional Harris Tweed wool jackets and waistcoats.

Harris Tweed wool is not a yarn for lily-livered living. This is coarse, pure wool that’s traditional and utterly glorious. It’s the kind of wool you’d wear to traverse tundra, climb mountains, ford tidal estuaries and wrangle otters, repair fences in a storm, carry newborn lambs and calves, build drystone walls and plant seed potatoes, hold a fishing rod and a mug of scalding coffee in the rain.

Beautiful for men and women, Inner Wild Pictish Celtic Mitts in pure Harris Tweed wool will endure with you on your adventures and when you take them off at home your pets will seek them out, drawn to the natural pure wool, curl up and sleep on them.
