When you’re wandering it’s important to feel loose and comfortable, warm and safe. Inner Wild Wanderer Warmers fingerless gloves somehow manage to help enhance the wandering spirit by wrapping your wrists in cozy softness.

Use this simple pattern to create cabled fingerless mitts using any yarn with a pair of any size needles. The original yarn used in these photos is Sirdar Hug 1 x 50g ball knitted on 7mm (US 10.5 needles). You can substitute any similar chunky yarn recommended to be knitted on 8mm (US11) needles but drop a needle size to 7mm (US10.5 approx).

However, you are not limited in your yarn choice. This basic pattern has created many different kinds of mitts bought by dearhearts in my etsy store over the years. It can scale up or down, regardless of gauge.

You can successfully use this pattern to knit chunky yarn on 6mm {US10}, Aran or Worsted weight yarn on 5mm (US8), DK on 4mm (US6) and even create lace-effect Wanderer Warmers using 4ply on 4mm {US6} or smaller needles as I have done.

Use your leftover yarn to make a pair of cable Wanderer Warmers to match a sweater or cards you’ve knitted. You can also vary the length of your Wanderer Warmers by adding or subtracting pattern repeats to make them wrist length cuffs, elbow-length gloves or even sleeves.

The cabling allows lots of ‘give’ in sizing so feel free to experiment with different yarns and needle sizes.
